What it is
What is glass coating?
Glass coating is a transparent coating that protects the glass against moisture and dirt. The coating makes the surface water-repellent, the so-called lotus effect: water beads off more easily and takes dirt with it, so less of it stays on the glass. The coating is not a tint: the glass keeps its colour and the view stays completely clear.
Outside, the coating protects the glass against salt and deposits; inside, it keeps limescale off shower enclosures. In both cases the glass stays clean longer and is considerably easier to clean. The coating is applied on board, with the glass in place.
Protecting after restoring
Why coat the glass?
Salt water, spray and limescale leave traces on glass. If they stay, they build up into deposits that set into the surface and can eventually only be removed by polishing. A coating keeps the surface smooth and sealed, so moisture and dirt get less of a grip on it. In that sense the coating is also a form of glass protection.
We prefer to apply the coating to clean, scratch-free glass, for example straight after polishing or grinding, so the restored surface stays protected. We rarely apply tinted film on yachts: yacht glass is usually already tinted and UV-protected from the factory.
Process
How we work
We apply the coating on board, with the glass in place, preferably straight after polishing or grinding, on glass that is clean and scratch-free.
Assessment
We look at the glass and its exposure to salt, spray or limescale and advise where coating makes sense.
Preparation
We clean the glass thoroughly and remove existing deposits, by polishing where necessary.
Application
We apply the coating evenly and let it cure, so the surface becomes sealed and water-repellent.
Check
We check the result and advise you on cleaning and maintenance, so the coating lasts.
